Adopt Cap'n Manny's adorable dog, Axis...
From: captain_manny@hughes.net
Subject: Dog for Adoption

Axis, the dog had been placed with a family earlier this year, but they
unfortunately have run into a financial and personal crisis and cannot keep
him any longer.  We rescued "Axis" from going to the pound (and
probably certain death by euthanasia), and are keeping him temporarily at
our "Outback Ranch" here in Chihuahua Valley.  But we earnestly are trying
to find a good home for "Axis".  We would love to keep him, but the doctors
advise against it with Floy Ann's current healing process still underway
from her broken pelvis and wrist.

Anyway, "Axis" is a "Lab Mix" (according to the Vet we took him to when we
first got him) == and he's about two years old now.  He weighs about 40
pounds, and the Vet told us he was probably not going to grow much bigger.
He is tan in color and short-haired with a fine, shiny coat.   When we took
him in for his initial check up with the Vet last November, we had him
neutered and he has had all his proper shots.  We did not get the
"microchip" for him, but it would probably be a good idea to have him
electronically tagged that way.  We have him collared with ID tags now,
showing his name and our address and phone numbers.  "Axis" was originally
rescued by our neighbor behind us here in CV from  off a busy freeway (where
he had apparently been "dumped" by his previous owners), and it was a
miracle he had not been hit and killed or injured by a car!    He has some
scars on his head that the Vet thought may have come from "survival
fighting" if he was "on the streets" (or roaming the forests) for a while.

"Axis" is a gentle dog -- full of affection, very lovable and likeable, and
still a bit "playful as a puppy".  He gets along well with children, and he
does not bark often (but he will "sound an alarm" as needed so he can be
considered a good "watch dog" in that light).  He has a "handsome face" (in
our opinion).  And even when the younger grandkids get rough in playing with
him, he does not bite.

He is "semi-trained" - which is to say that he responds to commands like
"Sit!" and "Stay!"; "Lie Down!" and "Heel!" (when walking with him).
However, we keep him tethered to a tree (with a 30' length of chain);  or on
the leash whenever he's outside - since he tends to "wander off" and not
come back right away.  So he'll need additional training to keep him from
running off if he's not tethered, fenced in, or on a leash.  But if he's put
into a fenced property, he'll do well, I'm sure.  He's "house broken" - and
he generally holds his bowels and bladder well until we take him out for a
walk in the mornings and evenings.  When we first got him late last year he
did have a couple of "accidents" with urination and defecation in the house
- but that has not happened now for many months. If he's taken for a morning
and evening walk, that should handle all his bodily functions well.

The attached photo shows "Axis" walking with our great-grandson.
So you can tell the dog responds well with small
kids.  We also have a photo of him "all sprawled out" and enjoying a nap on
the living room floor.

So there you have it - all you need to know about "Axis", the lovable,
handsome and very adoptable dog.  Hope you can help us find a good and
decent family that will adopt him.  Keep us posted.  Thanks!
